SWINDON'S Green Party is taking a unique approach to campaign fundraising after deciding to pay to get their names on the ballot papers through crowdfunding.

Rather than looking for big handouts from business, the Swindon branch of the party is calling on residents to show their support by pledging cash.

On their page, prospective parliamentary candidates Poppy Hebden-Leeder and Talis Kimberley-Fairbourn outline their case and call on the people of Swindon for support.

The Greens claim that, unlike the establishment parties or UKIP, their campaigns are uniquely powered by their members and supporters.

Poppy Hebden-Leeder, the prospective parliamentary candidate for Swindon North, said: “This is real democracy in action, the only people we will ever answer to are the people of Swindon.”

It takes £500 to secure a place in the election, so the group are looking to raise £1,000. Anything raised above that sum will pay for the cost of printing.

Rewards for donating range from a simple thank you to a piece of original artwork by Ceri Leeder, the mother of the North Swindon candidate.
