RYAN Tanser’s late winner condemned 1874 Northwich to a defeat on Saturday, boosting his own side’s chances of avoiding relegation.

Ian Street’s side slip from the top-four as a result.

The Squires Gate front man kept calm to shoot past Greg Hall, completing a second-half recovery by the home team.

They head fallen behind shortly after the interval, when Matthew Beadle steered a volley into the net after Ryan Jackson’s centre was headed in his direction by a defender.

However former Witton Albion striker Mark Buchan restored parity for Gate when he finished emphatically after a cross from the right wasn’t cleared by the visitors.

1874 had created the clearest opportunities in the first half.

Goalkeeper Joshua Woods intercepted Jackson’s cross before it could reach Beadle, and he followed that with an acrobatic save to tip over Mike Brandon’s drive from the edge of the penalty area.

Ryan Mitchell’s volleyed attempt from the resulting corner was off-target.

At the other end, Hall received a caution after handling outside of the box.

He made amends with a smart stop of his own before the break, spreading himself to thwart Buchan after the two had come face-to-face.

Brandon fluffed a sitter early in the second period, stumbling with the goal at his mercy from another Jackson assist.

Beadle’s opener was overturned by replies from Buchan and Tanser, while 1874 captain Matthew Woolley was sent off for violent conduct with time running out.
