SWINDON’S greatest and sharpest minds will go head to head in a fierce battle of wit at the Literature Festival’s Think Slam tonight – and it is not too late to throw your name in the hat.

Competitors will have just three minutes to present a thought-provoking idea, theory or story.

Just as in all good sporting competitions, there will be a first round and a final. Though there may well be moments of seriousness, nervousness and puzzlement, a spirit of good cheer will prevail.

Presented in association with the Swindon Philosophical Society, the seventh annual event will be judged by audience members led by Lit Fest guest and writer Cristina Odone, who will decide who inspired good, great or gruesome thoughts and who did not.

Cool compere, thinker, and writer in her own right, Sara-Jane Arbury, will maintain good Think Slam order, with clear instructions, a firm hand and thoughtful slam smile. She will be ably aided by sensible scorer, terrifying timekeeper and Lit Fest organiser Matt Holland.

The winner will be crowned seventh Swindon Think Slam Champ and receive a bubbly-filled trophy, rapturous applause and words of congratulation from judge supremo Cristina Odone.

Anyone brave and thoughtful enough, by their own standards, can apply to enter. To take part in Swindon Think Slam, contact the festival on 01793 771080 or at swindonlitfest@lowershawfarm.co.uk.

The event starts at 8pm at the Arts Centre. Tickets are £8. Double entry to Cristina Odone’s presentation at 6.30pm and Think Slam is £13.
