SWINDON schools are being hit by tomorrow's teachers' strike with some closing their doors and classes expected to be disrupted.
The National Union of Teachers is calling a day of strike action tomorrow in a dispute over contracts, funding for schools and workload.
Year 7,8 and 9 students at Churchfields Academy, Salcombe Grove will not be in school tomorrow. This is due to 25 of the 49 teaching staff signalling their intention to strike.
The Commonweal School has also made the decision to partly close tomorrow.
In a Facebook post head teacher Keith Defter said the school was left with no option but to close to year 7,8 and 9 students after a ‘significant escalation’ in staff going on strike.
Swindon Academy will completely close to secondary school students tomorrow. The Alton Close site for primary school pupils will be open as normal.
Royal Wootton Bassett Academy will also close its doors to all students.
Dorcan Academy, Nova Hreod Academy and Hazelwood Academy are all open as normal.
Clive Zimmerman, principal at Lydiard Park Academy, said it was business as usual at the school.
“Our plan is to keep things running as steadily as possible.
“We have made arrangements to make it work. We have written to the parents asking them to supply a book for the pupils. There may have to be reading sessions in the library or periods of quiet study but for the vast majority of students things will be running as normal.
“We will fill the gaps accordingly even if some things need to be moved around."
Primary schools have also been affected by strike action. Holy Rood Catholic Primary School will be closed to all pupils.
Lainesmead Primary School will be partly closed with year 2 and year 4 classes running normally. Half of their teaching staff will be striking.
Ferndale Community Primary School will open be open as normal bar two year 5 classes who will study at home.
Drove Primary School will remain partly open, but has cancelled five classes in years 1, 2 and 5.
