A MAN in his 20s, who was attacked outside a town centre pub in the early hours of Sunday, is in a “serious” condition, police say.

The assault took place outside the Sir Daniel Arms public house at around 3.50am and a 29-year-old from Swindon suffered head injuries.

He was taken by ambulance to the Great Western Hospital but was then transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, where he is currently in a serious condition.

The assault followed an altercation between a group of males behind the pub. Police attended along with the ambulance service.

Today police said a 25-year-old-man from Cirencester was arrested in connection with the incident and is currently in custody.

"We are appealing for witnesses," said Det Sgt Graham Mclaughlin from Swindon CID.

"We know there was a large group of people in the area at the time, so someone should have seen something. If that was you, please contact me.

"Also, if anyone has any mobile phone footage of the incident, please come forward with it to help with our enquiries."

If anyone has any information to help, please contact Det Sgt Graham Mclaughlin at Swindon CID on 101 or, if they wish to remain anonymous, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
