A MAN is in a serious condition in hospital today after a Halloween party at a popular restaurant turned into a genuine fright night.

Party-goers attending the invite-only event at Bottelino’s Italian restaurant in Penzance Drive on Saturday, were left terrified when gate-crashers arrived and began brawling.

Chairs were thrown, glasses were smashed and the restaurant has been trashed, with many being injured and taken to hospital.

One man was stabbed and taken to John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

“I’ve never seen anything like it, it was terrifying,” said Luke Jacobs, 23, who runs the business with his twin brother Scott, who had part of his head split open trying to stop the fight.

“The night was going really good, it was great atmosphere and everyone was having a good time but it just escalated and went out of control.”

Around 40 people had been enjoying the evening, dressed to impress with music from a DJ before the night took a turn for the worse.

This morning, officers have taped off the restaurant, as it is now a crime scene, while they gather evidence.

Swindon Advertiser:

Scott spent all of this morning in A&E having the cut on his head glued together.

Recalling what happened, he said: “It was a planned party between friends which me and Luke organised for Halloween. It was invite only through Facebook, so around 40 people came.

“Everything was great and the party was in good swing until about 1.30am when people we didn’t know started to flood in and it started to get a bit uneasy and a fight broke out outside.

“I tried to split it up and got something hard thrown at the back of my head. That knocked me down but I got back up and it was just a big brawl, around 15 to 20 people just brawling.

“I got all of our friends inside the building and called the police. I then got a taxi to A&E and spent all morning there. I didn’t get back until 7am and haven’t slept, I’ve just been pacing up and down.

“A man was seriously injured and he was rushed to hospital. We are not sure how he is doing.”

And he added: “We went there this morning to see if we could clean up. Even outside it is a state and we don’t want our restaurant looking like that.

“We don’t know when we will be able to re-open our business. It went from having a few friends at a little party to our business trashed.”

The twins are keen the perpetrators are caught and want anyone with information to contact police.

“I want people to know we don’t tolerate it,” Scott added.

It has also left them fearing for the reputation of their business.

Luke said: “The restaurant is a state. If you walk past it right now it’s an eyesore and there is police tape all around it.

“We’ve had to cancel 20 bookings today and we have been telling staff we don’t know when they can work again. We don’t even know if we can go back tomorrow.

“It’s a waiting game and our livelihood has come to a standstill.”

Wiltshire Police has been contacted for a comment. It has not been confirmed if anyone has been arrested.
