A NINE-YEAR-OLD girl’s quick-thinking has landed her family with a magical trip to see Cinderella at The Wyvern Theatre this Christmas.

Sophia Mills was praised last week for her cool-headed approach when mum Charlene collapsed at home.

The brave Brook Field Primary School pupil, who only recently turned nine, calmly dialled 999 and asked for an ambulance before clearly recounting her home address - including their postcode.

Charlene was taken to the Great Western Hospital by the paramedics, and is now back at home and on the mend after her ordeal - although doctors are still running tests to discover what caused her to collapse.

“I am so overwhelmed and so proud of her,” said Charlene.

“No matter how many times you drill things into their heads you wonder if it has gone in and you wonder what they would do in that situation – will they panic? Will they cry? Or will they remember what to do?

“For her to remember to do everything – even the smallest thing like putting the dog out for when the paramedics got here, and our postcode, it’s just amazing.

"She is an absolute star. She literally saved my life and I couldn’t be prouder of her if I tried.”

Sophia has received praise from far and wide for her quick thinking and bravery, with her school presenting her with a special certificate, while paramedics also praised her mature approach to the daunting situation. A South Western Ambulance Service spokesman has praised Sophia’s reaction when she found herself in the emergency situation.

He said: “South Western Ambulance Service encourages all parents to teach their children how and when to dial 999. As Sophia’s quick-thinking and brave actions demonstrates a child’s input really can make all the difference.

“We are pleased to learn that her mum has made such a good recovery and would like to formally acknowledge Sophia for the calm way she dealt with a very difficult situation.”

Now, the Swindon Advertiser in conjunction with the Wyvern Theatre has presented the family with complimentary tickets to see this year’s pantomime extravaganza, Cinderella.

Starring Ryan Thomas, the spectacular production will involve plenty of audience participation as well as laugh-out-loud comedy and dazzling song and dance routines and fun for all the family when it is staged from December 10 until January 8.
