ALEX Day was given a year-long community order when he appeared at Swindon Magistrates’ Court and admitted sending an electronic message that was grossly offensive, obscene or menacing.

Day, 20, of The Circle, Pinehurst, was also given a 12-week jail sentence, suspended for 18 months after he admitted breaching a previous suspended sentence imposed for possession of a bladed article.

The magistrates ordered him to pay £85 towards victim services and costs of £40.

A thief who shoplifted £100-worth of goods from B&M Bargains in Swindon was given a six-week curfew and a community order by the town’s magistrates.

David Watkins-Rudman, 30, of Percy Jefferies Court, Huddleston Close, pleaded guilty to the theft. At the hearing he was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £85 and £40 prosecution costs.

Magistrates handed Ben Webber an 18-month community order after hearing he was over the drug drive limit, had cannabis in his possession and had no licence or insurance when the Piagio moped he was riding was stopped in Drakes Way on September 18.

Webber, 20, of Archer Close, Upper Stratton, admitted all four charges at Swindon Magistrates' Court on December 14.

He was disqualified from driving for a year and given a bill for £45 prosecution costs with an £85 victim surcharge.

A woman who was stopped at The Fox pub by police and arrested on suspicion of drink-driving on December 20 has been charged.

Louise Sockett, 50 of Horseshoe Crescent, Peatmoor, has been bailed to appear at Swindon Magistrates' Court.

Drink-driver Andrew Fernandez was fined £800 fine and a 17-month disqualification after magistrates heard he was twice the alcohol limit when his car was stopped in Swinley Drive on November 25.

Fernandez, 36, of Copperfields, Prospero Way, admitted the charge at a hearing before the Swindon bench on December 14.

He was also told to pay £80 towards victim services and £85 in prosecution costs.

A court ordered a driver to undergo treatment for alcoholism after he was caught driving when he was more than three times the drink-drive limit at Greenbridge retail park on November 27.

Swindon magistrates heard Kevin Howse, 32, of Northfield Farm, Madley Park, Witney, Oxfordshire, had a level of 122 micrograms of alcohol in his breath. The limit is 35mcg.

Howse, who admitted the charge, was given a year’s community order, an eight-week curfew and a 30-month driving ban. He was also told to pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.

A man who committed frauds totalling more than £3,600 was ordered by Swindon magistrates to do 160 hours of unpaid work within the next year.

George Hill, 21, of Coppington Gardens, Lambourn, Berkshire, admitted four charges of false representation involving refunds at Kellaway Building Supplies in Larch Close in August and September last year.

He was ordered to pay compensation of £3696.19 along with an £85 victim surcharge and £85 court costs.

Mbuso Ngubane was banned from driving for three years after Swindon magistrates heard he was over the drink drive limit when his car was stopped on the M4 on November 28.

Ngubane, 29, of St Andrew's Crescent, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, admitted having a level of 42 micrograms of alcohol in his system. The legal limit is 35.

Magistrates fined him £120 with £30 towards victim services and £85 costs.
