KIDS and grown-ups descended on Wroughton on Saturday to take part in a fun-filled pancake and egg race.
Willow-Brook Gardens, just outside the Ellendune Community Centre, saw families brave the chilly winds to put their pancake racing skills to the test.
Contestants lined up, frying pan in hand, to flip and flop their way to the finish line before retiring to the St John the Baptist & St Helen church hall to devour a host of battery delights.
It is the third year the community held the popular pancake race.
Barbara Abrey, the church’s associate priest, thought it had been a cracking day all round.
She said: “Pancake Day usually falls in half term, but this year we decided to do it on the Saturday nearest to Shrove Tuesday.
“It’s always a nice community event that brings people of all ages together - it’s like a mini festival for the church. It’s great because everybody like pancakes.
“All the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves and we will certainly be doing it again next year.”
After the excitement of racing, and once the contestants had had their fill of pancakes, a number of fun activates were on offer for the little ones, before everyone went home, presumably to eat more pancakes, just after lunchtime.
Mary Allen, 58, from Wroughton, said: “I think it’s great that the church does things like this. The children loved it and it’s good to be able to get them out into the fresh air.
“My grand kids will be coming for tea on Tuesday, so I had better brush up on my pancake-making skils.”
