A RIDGEWAY School pupil has been arrested for possessing a bladed article on the school grounds this afternoon.

Police officers were called to the Wroughton secondary school and sixth form college just after 3pm following a call made by a member of senior staff.

As a result, Wiltshire Police said a 14-year-old boy from the local area was arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed article and was in custody.

Principal James Povoas confirmed that police attended the school grounds but refused to give further details.

It is understood that several police cars rushed to the scene and one was still parked on the school grounds almost an hour and a half after the initial call.

A concerned mum said she was shocked by the police presence at the school.

"It was when I went to pick up my children that I saw the police vans and sirens going past," she added.

"Clearly there is a problem that shouldn't be ignored but to see all of that, if you have children there yourself, it can be a little bit worrying."
