OVER 1,000 people descended to Roves Farm this weekend for a whole host of Easter activities that promised to be fun for the entire family.

The Sevenhampton attraction organised a jam-packed week of trails, tractor rides and crafts to keep children entertained during the school holidays and on Easter Sunday, ticket sales soared as families looked for things to do in the sun.

Edward Hamilton, who works at Roves Farm, said between Good Friday and Easter Sunday, the farm welcomed over 1,000 people through its doors.

“The Easter events have been going really well so far this week," he added.

"We’ve adapted certain aspects to make them even more family friendly especially for the younger children and so now all the events are all-encompassing.

“We’ve had some lovely dry weather and while it has been a bit cloudy, it hasn’t stopped people from coming here."

A welcomed attraction was the Easter bunny making an appearance during the farm tractor rides that have been running twice an hour.

Edward added: “A lot of people do come here for the tractor ride because Ricky, who works here, has made it a bit of an attraction for people as he does with all things.

“As well as the Easter things going on, we also have a new play barn that has just opened which we pushed to finish in time for the school holidays.

“During these holidays, we are getting people not just from Swindon but quite a lot from Oxford way and what is interesting is that people are using us as a meeting point.

"It is a good half way point for a lot of families to meet up and be somewhere that kids and burn off some energy.”

Other activities across the weekend included feeding and handling some of the animals, den building and a stamp trail. There is also a daily animal race which is raising money for Alzheimer's Research UK.

Families who made the trip to Roves Farm included Kim Hooker, 35 who came all the way from Kent to visit family in the town. It was on their recommendation that she brought her two girls, Mollie, eight and Lucie, five to the farm.

“Our relatives told us about this place and we’ve been impressed that there is always something going on,” she said.

Dominique Oughton, 36, from Marlborough, went along with her 11-month old baby Noah.

She said: “We just wanted a family day out and it was through recommendations that we decided to come here with the little one.

“It is a great place to introduce him to the animals and we would definitely come back.”

The Easter activities will be running until Saturday. For more information about tickets and times, visit www.rovesfarm.co.uk
