A VILLAGE fun day was held in Purton this weekend.

Despite the damp conditions and drizzle, crowds gathered at the Church Street war memorial and village centre for an afternoon of fun activities.

Local organisations such as Rays Ice Cream, Circle Cider and Oak and Furrows Wildlife Rescue Centre had stalls at the event.

Coffee and cakes were served up from newly opened kiosk Laura’s Kitchen. There were also sizzling burgers and sausages from the barbecue for waiting guests.

Keeping the children entertained was a bouncy castle, merry go round and hula hooping.

Paintings, jewellery and crafts were also on sale inside the hall.

The event, organised by Purton Parish Council, was launched last year and will be held annually.

Purton Parish councillor Geoff Greenaway said he was delighted with the day.

He said: “Even though the weather hasn’t been the best I am very pleased with the turn-out and how the day is going. It is great to see so many people here relaxing and enjoying the day.

“We want to promote our local businesses and organisations and the work they do that people may not be aware of.

“It is also a chance for people to come along, have a chat with us and find out what is going on in Purton and any issues they may have they can come and talk to us. People can look up events online but not everyone is able to do that so this is a chance to see the great businesses we have here locally.”
