A PHARMACY has raised more than £700 for the Alzheimer’s Society during Dementia Awareness Week 2017.

Staff at Lloyds Pharmacy in Clive Parade, Cricklade Road got into the fundraising spirit with a series of fun events including a tombola, raffle and a cake sale.

This was a week-long event, full of activities designed to raise money and awareness of dementia within the local community.

Pharmacist Sai Jammigumpula also showed he was a good sport by allowing his colleagues to throw soaked sponges at him in aid of the charity.

Supervisor Tina Ledbury, from Pinehurst, organised the event with the help of her daughter Vikki Edwards and team members

Tina’s father Charles has dementia and so she was driven by a personal motivation to raise as much money as possible.

She said: “This is cause very close to my heart and we want to raise awareness as well as get donations during this week.

“It is a condition which affects so many people and people have been coming into the pharmacy to share their stories or to ask advice which is exactly what we were hoping for.

“I would like to thank my team and especially my daughter Vikki for her help with this event.”

Lloyds Pharmacy has been working in partnership with Alzheimer’s Society since 2015 and has over 15,000 Dementia Friendly colleagues.

Customers were also offered free health checks for some of the risk factors associated with dementia, including diabetes, blood pressure and respiratory tests.
