AGE proved no barrier for a Cricklade pensioner turned superstar DJ who made it through to the semi-finals of Britain’s Got Talent.

Christine Tew, AKA Dizzy Twilight, had the crowds raving as when she climbed aboard a huge spaceship and pulled off an out-of-this-world performance on the talent show.

Although 66-year-old Dizzy wowed ruthless Simon Cowell and David Walliams, the female judges Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon were not as impressed and her BGT journey sadly came to an end.

The former registrar and nurse has always had an interest in music but it was only when she retired six years ago that she decided to pursue her passion full-time.

She said: “I loved every second of it, it was a dream come true to be up there doing what I love

“I thought to myself, I’m not going to get through but just appreciate it for what it is. You never know what is going to happen.

“It was amazing to be on a spaceship and playing to that crowd. Everyone was dancing, I loved it.

“I love the feeling when you get up onstage, you forget everyone and everything. It’s just about the music. Nothing can touch you and you can really get into the rhythm.”

It followed a memorable first audition where viewers saw Christine whip off her beige cardigan and skirt to reveal a sequinned mini-dress as mixing decks were wheeled over to her by members of the stage crew.

The chorister then slipped on large headphones to spin tracks by Fatboy Slim and David Bowie causing an uproar among the crowd and judges who couldn’t stop dancing.

The judges sent Dizzy sailing through to the next round with four 'yeses'.

In 2015 she spent time in clubbing capital Ibiza with husband of 44 years Malcolm, picking up tips from the world’s best DJs

Christine, who loves house, RnB and dance music says her favourite artists include Pete Tong, Calvin Harris and David Guetta.

She has even taken a course with the Ministry of Sound to hone her craft.

The mother of four and grandmother of one said she wanted to inspire others to follow their dreams.

“I thought about Britain’s Got Talent, spoke to a few friends who were very encouraging and said, ‘what have you got to lose?’

“I want to encourage people to pursue their passions and not be ashamed to do what they love

“I suppose I was nervous about seeing Simon Cowell because he can be quite harsh. Him and David were lovely at the semi-final, they were really fun.”

Since the show aired Christine has been inundated with offers to show her DJ prowess, including a request to play a wedding in Mexico

Christine also credits watching DJ sets of Pete Tong and Avicii with developing her skills on the decks.
