TWO lanes of the M4 westbound between junctions 15 and 16 were closed because of a crash involving four vehicles.
A call was made to South Western Ambulance Service just before 2.40pm about the crash and paramedics were still at the scene treating a casualty just before 4pm.
A police spokesman said: "Only one lane is serviceable on the Westbound carriageway just before Junction 16 due to the crash.
"Emergency services are at the scene and collision investigation work and recovery of the damaged vehicles is under way.
"We expect the lane closures to remain in place for at least two hours."
Traffic was thought to be queuing for more than three miles at 4.15pm.
- All lanes were reopened before 5pm with traffic conditions improving quickly.
