Families flocked to Holy Cross Catholic Primary School on Queens Drive on Saturday to enjoy a delightful summer fayre in the sunshine.

The field by the school was full of happy children running round the bouncy castles, stalls and maypole, listening to live music from singer/entertainer Little Miss Dynamite, and going on a cycling awareness course which was set up by the football area to teach them important safety advice.

A community support officer from Wiltshire Police brought a police car along to the fayre for children to look at and learn about.

All the money raised will go to the Parents Friends Association, who pay for new additions to the school, like its recently-installed 'Trim Trail.

The trail features activities and obstacles for the children to play with and also links to directly to St Joseph's Catholic College, keeping them away from the busy main road by the front of the school and giving them a safe space to play during and after school.

The Trim Trail cost £15,000 and £10,000 had already been secured.

It's hoped that donations from generous visitors at the fayre will cover the rest of the costs.

Assistant Headteacher Karen Salter was very pleased with the turnout.

She said: "It's been a great day, it's very busy and everyone's enjoying themselves.

"Past and present pupils have come along with their families, everyone's come out to support the school, we're very pleased.

"As a new school, it's important that we support the community and build up relationships here.

"The children absolutely love the trail, it cost a lot of money to pay for but it's an investment we feel is really worthwhile.

"Today has been an amazing success, and we couldn't have asked for better weather.

Headteacher Tony McAteer volunteered to be put in the stocks and have wet sponges thrown at him.

Karen added: "He's a very good sport."
