FIVE men have been arrested following the “unprovoked attack” on a Swindon taxi driver.

Today, a 63-year-old man and a 40-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of robbery and are currently in custody.

On Tuesday, officers arrested a 35-year-old man and a 28-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of robbery. The previous day, a 54-year-old man was arrested. All three have been released under investigation.

The arrests follow the assault of a 28-year-old drive by a group of men after he drove them from Cricklade Road/Poplar Avenue to the Supermarine Sports Club on Sunday, October 8, at around 11pm.

The men took cash, keys and the driver's mobile phone.

Police have appealed for anyone with information about the attack to come forward.

Det Sgt Scott Anger said: "We'd like to speak to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Supermarine or Cricklade Road area on this Sunday evening.

"Perhaps you noticed a confrontation between a taxi full of men and their driver near to the Supermarine Club or saw any other vehicles driving suspiciously, around 11pm on Sunday, October 8.

"We are continuing to thoroughly investigate this incident, which was an unprovoked attack on an innocent taxi driver just doing his job.

"If you can help with our enquiries in any way, please come forward."
