PRANCING parents will take the Orbital by storm next week.

Mums from baby dance group Sling Swing are planning a Christmas-themed dance “flashmob” at the North Swindon shopping centre.

Around 20 mums will take part in the pop-up dance routine, with their newborns strapped to their fronts.

Amy Chappell, 31, who teaches the class, said: “We try and do a flashmob every now and again. Mainly because the women really enjoy it, but also to show off what we do.

“New mums can’t do too much – but they want to do something.”

The troupe of 20 dancing mums will get their groove on to festive classics All I Want for Christmas, Rocking Around the Christmas Tree and Rocking Robin.

“The moves are very basic – side steps, box steps,” Amy said. “It’s something the girls have been working on for three weeks already.”

Now in its third year, Swindon Sling Swing is one of a network of mum dancing groups around the country.

Amy said: “Three-and-a-half years ago a sling group auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent. It was all over social media. Simon Cowell wanted to put them through, but it never got televised.

“I’d heard about the groups and I’d just had my second daughter. I didn’t want to go back to work.”

Instead of returning to the 9 to 5 she set up Swindon’s Sling Swing group. Amy said: “Three-and-a-half years later I’ve had another baby – and I’m still teaching.”

The groups meet on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at churches in Rodbourne, Old Town and Abbey Meads.

The Christmas “flashmob” dance will be at the Orbital on Thursday, December 14, from 12.45pm.
