A driver caught with more than the legal limit of cannabis in his system was banned from the roads for a year and fined £300. Swindon Magistrates Court heard Neil hall, aged 21, of Wilcox Close, had 7.2 microgrammes of the drug per litre of blood in his system when he drove his Ford Ka in Wilcox Close on August 14. The limit is 2. He pleaded guilty to the charge and to having no insurance or licence. The magistrates told him to pay £85 prosecution costs and £30 towards victim services.

Swindon magistrates ordered Lewis Page to pay £75 compensation to a police officer and a woman to whom he caused distress.

Page, aged 26, of Prospero Way, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour towards the woman in an incident on September 18 and assaulting a policeman.

Prolific shoplifter Billy-Jo Cosgrave was jailed for a total of 12 weeks after breaching a suspended sentence by stealing a £2.60 baguette from Greggs and sweets from Poundworld.

The 21-year-old of Rainscombe Road, Badbury Park, admitted carrying out the thefts on January 3 and breaching the suspended sentence impost only a month before for three offences of stealing from shops and one of possessing a bladed article. Swindon magistrates ruled he must be jailed because the theft was committed soon after his previous sentencing.

The driver of an Audi who was over the drink drive limit when he was stopped in Station Road on January 14 has been given a 16-month ban.

Mark Francis, aged 23, of Manston, Dorset, was fined £315 by Swindon magistrates after they heard he had a level of 54 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 ml of breath in his system. He admitted the charge. The bench also told him to pay £31 towards victim services and £85 prosecution costs.

Michael Gibson was fined £100 by Swindon magistrates when he pleaded guilty to be being drunk and disorderly at Caffé Nero in Bridge Street on January 11.

The court heard Gibson, aged 26, of Hawthorn Avenue, still had a large amount of compensation to pay so made no order for costs or victim surcharge.
