THE Mayor of Swindon enjoyed a tour of New College's beauty salon on Monday - and got a massage and manicure from the students.

Mayor Maureen Penny enjoyed her look around Distinction , which takes up much of the college's third floor and has been operating there for seven years.

The salon's lecturers and academic instructors guide wannabe-beauticians through Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications in Hair and Beauty. in a practical training environment.

Mayor Penny said: "This is my first time here and I'm really impressed.

"They are doing such a good job of training their students for the industry.

"The massage was phenomenal, I'd recommend it to anybody.

"I like to go for massages so for me to say that about one from a training area is praise indeed."

The salon features a holistic suite, hair salons, a classroom for theory lessons, a tanning suite, and a massage parlour.

Receptionist Rachael Bailey said: "The students are very fortunate to have these facilities.

"We try to create a professional environment here for the students."
