A VILLAGE preschool and nursery has had a disappointing Ofsted after inspectors criticised its 'chilly' building and missed chances to support children.

Marcham Little Angels has been rated 'requires improvement' again, after it was given the same rating last year.

A report released for the Marcham nursery last week stated: "Staff miss opportunities to support children to practise and build on their early writing skills as part of play activities.

"In colder weather, the building can become rather chilly.

"Leaders do not identify and address issues fully to keep children warm and comfortable."

Ofsted said support for children learning English as a second language needed improvement, but did say such learners were 'beginning to catch up'.

It also noted some areas of stronger practice.

The report stated: "Leaders have worked closely with staff to develop the quality of teaching, the key-person system and deployment of staff.

"This has a positive impact on children's learning.

"Leaders and managers have also improved systems for monitoring and assessing children's progress and identifying areas of weakness."

Little Angels, which also provides after-school care, currently looks after 65 children. .
