A NEW controlled parking zone (CPZ) will be introduced in Iffley Fields after a senior councillor gave it the go-ahead.

More than 150 people said they wanted a CPZ to be introduced in Argyle Street, Bedford Street, Chester Street, Daubeny Road, Fairacres Road, Parker Street, Stratford Street and Warwick Street.

Yvonne Constance, who is the council’s cabinet member for environment and economy, approved proposals which will see roads between Jackdaw Lane and Fairacres Road reserved for residents’ and visitors’ parking.

Mrs Constance said: “Concerns from residents over parking pressures in the area have increased significantly in recent years and so I am pleased that we are able to help.”

Funding has been allocated to the county council for the scheme’s design.

There were 20 objections to the plan when it was consulted on earlier this year.

Under the proposals, residents would need permits to park in the affected roads and two-hour non-resident parking would be allowed from 8am and 6.30pm.

Those objecting had concerns over the cost of permits and also the need for a CPZ in the area.

The same plans were rejected in 2009 due to lack of support.

A public meeting was held in May 2017 organised by the Iffley Fields Residents’ Association with councillors and officers to seek views.

Mrs Constance formally approved the plan at a public meeting on Thursday.
