POP princess Pixie Lott will headline a new music festival and family fun day which is planned to be held in Lydiard Park in July.

Pixie has three number-one singles and last year she coached Swindon’s own Lewis Blissett to the semi-finals of The Voice Kids.

She joins the MFor Festival’s current line-up of ex-JLS star Aston Merrygold, ‘90s boyband 5ive, soul group Dave Finnigan’s Commitments, and local band The Tribe.

The festival was set up to bring big-name musical acts to Swindon and celebrate the tireless work of Britain’s military.

More acts will be announced in the coming months.

A funfair, facepainting stalls, and inflatables will keep the kids entertained.

Charities Walking With the Wounded and Combat Stress will raise money for army veterans.

The festival is the brainchild of Swindonian army veteran Graham Stobbs.

He said: "We are investing in the local community and giving back to Swindon.

"It's something that the people of Swindon can be proud of, they can enjoy their day at the festival while supporting those who need it.

"It will also give local artists a chance to show off what they can do.

MFor is expected to be held at Lydiard Park on July 28, though the paperwork is still being sorted so the council are yet to officially agree to it going ahead.

A spokesperson for Swindon Borough Council said: “The organisers of the festival are currently working with our Event Safety Advisory Group and have submitted an application for a licence for the event.

“This is currently in its statutory determination period.

“There is currently no agreement for the organisers to use Lydiard as an approved licence and event management plan needs to be in place first.

“The Council needs to be satisfied that the event can take place safely and that the appropriate licences are in place before allowing the event to take place.”
