A TEENAGER has been taken to hospital with "serious injuries" this evening following a stabbing at Eldene Nursery and Primary School.

Officers from Wiltshire Police are currently within the grounds of the school having been there for around three hours.

A spokesman for the South Western Ambulance Service said they had been called to the school at around 4.10pm. He said: "There was an adult male who had been stabbed, he was taken by land ambulance to the emergency department at Great Western Hospital."

A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: "We were called by the ambulance service at approximately 4.10pm today to a report of a serious assault which had occurred near Eldene Primary School, Collingsmead.

"A 17-year-old man has sustained serious injuries and has been taken to the Great Western Hospital for treatment. Enquiries are currently ongoing.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident should call police on 101."

A police forensics vehicle along with a patrol car and an unmarked vehicle remain at the scene.

It is understood that Wiltshire Air Ambulance was called to the school at around 5pm.

The primary school is understood to have sent a text message to parents which said: "Please be aware that there has been an incident at school this evening. This is unrelated to any children or staff at Eldene Nursery and Primary School."

It is understood that the presence of officers in Walcot this evening is connected with the incident.

No arrests have yet been made.

A mother of two, 35, living nearby who asked not to be named said: "People have said it's a stabbing, that a boy got stabbed."

Another woman in her 60s said that she had heard a lot of sirens shortly after 4pm. She said: "We have had no problems around here, no problems at all."
