BARBIE could soon be evicted from her pothole paradise, as officials plan to repair the road she calls home.

Adver readers were left delighted yesterday by the story of a Wroughton man who has bought children’s dolls to leave in a taped-off pothole on Mill Lane, near Waitrose.

Neville Daytona, a dad-of-three, began leaving the dolls heads in the bin-lid sized pothole this winter after being inspired by pothole warriors elsewhere in the country.

He said: “The roads are disgusting. Everyone’s talking about it. I thought I’d do something about it.”

Yesterday, the council said that the doll’s pothole would soon be repaired. A borough spokesman said: “Our action men and women have repaired the pothole several times over the last few months but it keeps reappearing due to a problem with the waterproofing on the motorway bridge.

“We are pleased to report that Highways England, who are responsible for the bridge and the waterproofing, have agreed to fix the underlying issue, hopefully sparing any more dolls from being decapitated.

“We would also like to remind people that they do not have to go to such lengths to report a pothole and can just as easily highlight them online by visiting: www.swindon.gov.uk/potholes”
