One final reminder has been issued to voters before they make their way to the polling station today.
People must take their polling cards with them to vote, the council has said.
The poll card will contain the address of the polling station.
The new voter ID scheme being piloted by Swindon Borough Council requires people to hand their polling cards, or other nationally accepted forms of ID, to staff at the polling station upon arrival.
The cards will then be scanned into a tablet and the voter’s details displayed.
When staff are happy the person is who they say they are, they will be guided to a booth to put a cross on the ballot paper.
If people lose or forget their poll card, they can bring any one of the following forms of ID:
-
Passport (UK, EU, Commonwealth) (can be expired or unexpired)
-
Photocard driving licence including a provisional licence (UK, Crown Dependency or EU)
-
Northern Ireland Electoral Identity Card
-
Biometric Immigration Document
-
EEA Identity Card
Every polling station will be open for people to cast their vote between 7am and 10pm.
Call the council on 01793 445500 for more details.
