A TOP eighties hitmaker will play at a Wiltshire village pub to raise cash for stray animals.

Belinda Carlisle, whose hits include Heaven is a Place on Earth, will play an intimate set at Helen Browning's Royal Oak pub later this month.

The Go-Go's lead singer's set will raise cash for Animal People Alliance, a charity co-founded by Belinda that helps stray animals on the streets of Calcutta and supports victims of human rights abuse in India.

Her intimate 300-ticket gig has already sold out. Singer Belinda said: "I’m excited to be part of this years fundraiser in Bishopstone and thrilled it sold out so quickly. I’m grateful to Helen Browning’s Royal Oak and the volunteers and businesses who make this event possible.

"I'm looking forward to performing an acoustic set of songs at this gorgeous venue."

Belinda said her charity, founded in 2014, was having a"real impact" in Calcutta.

"This year we partnered with an animal shelter in the region called Love and Care and plan to recruit more trainees to support the animal hospital, as well as running volunteer trips and education initiatives in the region," she added.

Born in California, Belinda shot to fame as lead singer of rock band The Go Go's. After leaving the band in 1985, she scored solo hits with Mad About You, Leave a Light On and Heaven is a Place on Earth.

Helen Browning said she was "flattered" that Belinda had decided to play at her Bishopstone pub: "We completely support the efforts of her charity and we’ve decided to make all our food that day fit her vegetarian ethos."

Guests will be served from a menu prepared by Royal Oak head chef Paul Winch from local produce, including a mozzarella made on Helen Browning's farm.

A proportion of the revenue from food sales on the day of the concert will be given to Animal People Alliance.

Belinda Carlisle plays at the Royal Oak, Bishopstone, on Saturday, May 19.
