THE people of Bishopstone are decorating wooden ducks as part of a trail challenge.

Taking place from May 26 to June 10, trail-walkers will have the chance to take in the countryside while solving clues with the family. Money raised will go towards Bishopstone Primary School.

Organiser Belinda Nicholls said: “It’s a beautiful village with thatched cottages, there’s a section of the walk called "the city" which is really pretty, we’ve got bridges over streams and it’s a chance for kids to see some cows.

“It’s just fun because it’s getting the kids outside and doing something which always makes the walk a little more interesting for kids and they’re less likely to moan.”

Pupils at the school have decorated their ducks with movie characters for walkers to identify, while adults in the village are setting their own duck trail complete with cryptic clues. Prizes are available to those who complete the trail.

Belinda added: “It’s not a massive trail – perfectly easy to walk around with little legs, and you can split it up with pubs.”

The Royal Oak pub will host a charity pig-racing event on June 3. The trail organiser explained: “It’s more of a trot than a race, I would say, but the pigs have been trained for the last two months.”

Entry for the adult trail is £4 while the kids’ trail is £1. Trails are available from the Royal Oak and the primary school.
