AN ARTIST is looking to fundraise for a charity wellbeing event at the Lawn Community Centre this month.

Mary Parsons is laying on a creative gala to inspire people to learn new skills and take better care of themselves, but to do so she needs to raise around £700 ahead of the event on June 30. Proceeds from ticket sales will go towards the Brighter Futures charity, which is trying to bring a radiotherapy unit to Swindon.

Mary said: “The gala is based around wellbeing and looks at what people need to keep well and healthy. It's to get people to be active, to learn something, to notice what is going on and have a bit of time to reflect, and lastly to give and learn about the positive aspect of giving."

In return for a pledge on her fundraising page, individuals can get prints and paintings as well as art experience sessions at Mary’s studio. Organisations donating to the event can receive art projects run by the artist which are suitable for community groups, schools and care homes.

She is also offering consultation on how to make art participation accessible to people with disabilities.

Guests at the creative gala will have the chance to practice their painting skills, enjoy juggling and acrobatic performances, as well as learn about gardening and meditation.

Mary added: "It's for a local cause and it's something that will benefit the whole area. Quite a few years ago I've had family who had radiotherapy. My aunt had to go to Oxford for treatment and it just seems amazing to me that it's still happening now."
