SO, we have spent weeks waiting for this news to become a reality. We’ve all deliberated, cogitated and digested, and finally we have arrived.

Tomorrow night sees the re-opening of The Rolleston. In the first of two nights of music to usher in the new era, Innes Sibun will be taking time out from the European summer festival circuit to bring his new incendiary, electric blues outfit, The Malone Sibun Band to play this opening event.

Also putting a bluesy twist on a range of well known classics and pre-loved songs, all genres from funk to rock to reggae and of course blues itself, The Blind Lemon Blues Band can be found at The Queen’s Tap. If you want something seriously funky then Felix and The Funk, the clue is in the name can be found at Swiss Chalet with a plethora of dance, soul, disco, pop and funk. It looks like serious groove is back on the menu.

If tributes are more your cup of tea then two fairly opposing options are on offer. At The Victoria the dark, Dionysian and sultry sound of The Lizard King can be found courtesy of Doors Alive whilst at The Haydon Wick Club, cheeky and vibrant pop is one the cards in the shape of mark Hopkins as Robbie Williams.

And if Friday’s first night at The Rolleston got you into the weekend mood, Saturday is when the real party takes place. The Official grand opening will feature, punk classics from Rotten Aces, solo acoustica from Alicia, groovesome street rock Falls on Deaf Ears, the dulcet tones of Ian Doeser in solo mode, working class punk and Oi anthems from Street Outlaws, modern pop meets vintage rock’n’roll from The Strays and 2 Sick Monkeys rounding the night off with short, sharp punk rock salvos.

But of course there is plenty more going on around the town. If modish music is to your taste then you have a couple of bands to choose from. The Roughcut Rebels will be treating The Swiss Chalet to a night of 60’s infused, edgy power-pop whilst at The Victoria, Peloton deliver the same plus a few new wave, punk and northern soul gems.

And talking of soul, The Soultones will be laying out a spread of iconic pop, the best of the golden age of soul and the hippest dance tracks from the past at The Queen’s Tap, all your smooth favourites and a few long forgotten gems. Catch 22 mix things up at The Haydon Wick Club with music ranging from 50’s rock ’n’ roll through 70’s pop to modern dance floor fillers, from Jeff Beck to Mick Ronson, from "The King" to Queen and everything in between and Metson take a similar approach with a genre hopping, era jumping set at The Castle.

Those looking for a slice of that big rock sound need to head down to The Waiting Room as Rorke’s Drift conjure up a night of rock’s finest songs from the 70’s to the present day.

Finally, on Sunday, Dangermouse can be found at The Duke of Edinburgh with their usual blends of musical deftness, fun and set list that reminds you why you fell in love with music in the first place. If you can’t find something to love in their set then perhaps music isn’t for you after all.
