The75-year-old man involved in a hit-and-run Swindon on Sunday evening has died.

And police have launched a murder inquiry.

The local man, who has not been named, was taken to John Radcliff Hospital on Sunday with life-threatening injuries after a hit-and-run at the junction of Southernwood Drive and Westfield Way.

A 21-year-old man from Swindon was arrested yesterday late afternoon on suspicion of attempted murder and has now been re-arrested on suspicion of murder.

DI Jim Taylor, from the Brunel Major Crime Investigation Team, appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

“This is tragic news for the victim’s family and our thoughts are with them at this incredibly difficult time," he said.

“We have been carrying out detailed enquiries since the collision, but we are still hoping the public can help provide vital bits of information.

“Were you in the area at the time of the crash, or did you see either vehicle before the collision occurred?

“If you know something, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, please call police and help us solve this investigation.”

The collision between a blue Vauxhall Corsa and a red Toyota Yaris happened at around 8.50pm on Sunday night (8 July 2018) at the junction of Southernwood Drive and Westfield Way.

The passenger of the Toyota, the man who died, got out of his vehicle to exchange details but was struck by the Corsa when it drove off from the scene.
