SWINDON Town summer trialist Shamir Mullings has signed for National League side Maidstone United.

Striker Mullings spent time training with Phil Brown's Swindon at the start of pre-season, scoring in the opening friendly win at Cirencester Town on Wednesday of last week.

But the 24 year old has now joined Jay Saunders outfit, signing a one-year deal after his time with Forest Green Rovers came to an end.

Mullings joined Rovers for an undisclosed fee from Chelmsford City in November 2016 and was part of the squad that won promotion to League Two via the National League promotion final.

He started his career with Southend United in 2012 and a year later he signed for Bromley. After a loan spell at Thamesmead Town, he joined Havant and Waterlooville and it was from there he joined Chelmsford in the summer of 2016.

Brown had said of the player: “Ricky Duncan (Southend academy director) was throwing Shamir at me, and looking at the size of him I thought he was a big lad then.

“He was pursuing another career in basketball, but he lives in Swindon and is a target man.

“He has an eye for goal and a clinical finish.''

Brown has taken trialist Lloyd Sam away with the Town squad for a pre-season training camp in Spain this week, ahead of the home friendly with West Brom at the County Ground on Saturday.
