Accept the result

I notice that there have been a number of writer’s to the SA who have been calling for a second referendum.

Remember the first referendum in the 70s? I didn’t recall anyone calling for a second referendum after the electorate voted to remain; those who voted to leave were told to shut up and accept the result. No one stated we should be allowed to have a second referendum on the grounds that we might want to change our minds.

Forty two years later those who voted to remain were given the chance to change their minds and this time they did.

Now we have got those calling for a second referendum on the grounds that Parliament is in stalemate. The only reason for that is simply the fact that the remainers won’t accept the result of the referendum.

Grow up, the lot of you

I like millions of others, I am sure, am fed up to the back teeth with all this baloo about leaving the EU.

Let’s all be clear on one thing, the vote went to the Leave party. That’s it, we leave no matter who or how many UK citizens, wannabe councillors or trainee MPs out there stamp their feet and hold their breath until they go blue, - if you don’t remain I’m taking my ball home.

Tough. Grow up and get behind the PM and help the government get a deal, not try and throw spanners in the works every time a motion is put on the table. I cannot remember a single politician who has got the gumption to say it as it is; all they seem to do is try and score points off each other.

Still nothing to worry about, Parliament is on holiday now, about the same time the children have on holiday from school. Strange comparison that.

MPs are to blame

In reply to Kevin Small 20th July, it is our MPs’ refusal to implement then EU referendum result, that is the problem.

Both major parties promised to take Britain out of the EU in their 2017 General Election manifestos.

But once the election was over both major parties decided that they wanted to stay in a Customs Union.

The ruling elite have decided that the working class made a mistake in wanting to take back control of our borders.

They have decided that the free movement of people is the option that the working class should have chosen.

No sign of any god

I’m so awfully sorry for those whom I may have offended whilst stating my views that all religion is ridiculous and merely a way of controlling the population of various civilisations.

How stupid of me. How blind I am not to see how often god or Jesus or Mohammed or Allah has come down to earth and directly intervened into a nasty situation in person and sorted things out. In plain view.

After hundreds and hundreds of years of pointless worship, no sign has ever been seen of these deities. Nothing. Not one.

Obviously after a situation has turned out nicely everyone attributes it to their god and he gets all the credit. Ask where ‘god’ was whilst six million Jews were murdered by the Nazis. Ask where god was whilst children in Afghanistan are mutilated by bombs from either side. Ask where god is whilst a kid gets stabbed to death because he strayed into the wrong street in London.

When you find the answer then feel to criticise me and my argument.

Trump, not Obama

I feel I must correct Des Morgan in his letter (Sat 21st July). President Obama did not forcibly remove children from their parents. This is solely the work of the Trump administration and their zero tolerance policy on the southern border.

If Des can prove me wrong I will gladly eat my hat. Certainly unaccompanied children were detained, this is well documented. But the horror of taking a toddler away from its mother is purely the work of the Trump administration.

There are audio recordings of the children’s pleas as they are separated, it’s truly gut wrenching to hear. To compound the distress, only a tiny percentage of these children have been reunited months after being separated, very little documentation was taken to ensure a swift return.

The long lasting trauma that both mother and child will endure is incalculable.
