A POLISH aerospace consultant who blew almost three times over the drink drive limit has been banned from getting behind the wheel.

Wieslaw Zabski, 47, of Hexagon Close, Manchester, was stopped by police on a town centre side street after taking two minutes to park.

Officers driving an unmarked car had tailed his Astra for around a mile, after spotting Zabski crawl across the Magic Roundabout and onto Drove Road at around 20mph at 2.55am on July 20. He almost doubled his speed on Groundwell Road, magistrates heard.

Police switched on their blue emergency lights as Zabski parked, saying they could smell booze on the Polish man. A roadside breathalyser test showed found 122 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of his breath. The legal limit is 35.

When he was taken back to Gablecross Police Station, Zabski had refused to take another breathalyser test. He answered no comment to questions at interview.

Defending, Mr Beale said his client had been returning from his home in Manchester after an argument with his partner’s family. Zabski, who has lived in the UK for 13 years, was working and staying in Swindon.

While Zabski admitted to drinking before he was stopped by police, Mr Beale said: “He’s certainly a man who knows how much he can drink. He says he was completely aware of what he was doing.” Shock at being stopped by the police was the cause of his apparent reluctance to engage with the authorities.

Zabski pleaded guilty to failing supply a specimen of breath. He was banned from driving for 17 months and ordered to pay £415 in fines, costs and victim payments.
