THIEVES have tried to break into the cafe at Coate water Park just a few days after a devastating burglary there.

Last week the Adver reported on the Coate Water Park cafe suffered a very damaging break-in through the building's roof with stock being stolen and the cafe vandalised and now the cafe has reported a second attempt in a matter of days to get in

The cafe's Facebook page said that the attempted break-in on Saturday but the owners' distress was obvious .

A status update that has been shared nearly 400 times said: "We are finding it quite incredible to write this, but we had another attempted break in last night they did not manage to get in, nothing was taken but our door has been so badly damaged we can’t even get in to the cafe ourselves and will need to wait until someone professional can come out to fix it.

“To the people who did this. You may not have stolen items, but you robbed us of another night’s sleep, we were called to the cafe at 2.30am by the police.

It added that the cafe's owner Craig Poole had to spend his only day off in weeks which he had hoped to spend with his family, dealing with the break-in after being called out in the middle of the night and getting home at 4.30am.

It finished: “It’s just so mindless and pointless, but it has such a big impact to us personally.”

More than 700 Facebook users liked the post to give their condolences and show their support.

The intruder climbed up a pole and cut all the wires to the CCTV cameras, according to one of the park rangers.

There has been an increase in vandalism to the country park including the Pitch and Putt course and nearby lavatories being damaged.

A Swindon Borough Council ranger at the park said: “This has become ridiculous - pointless damage that has been caused for no reason.

“The trespassers won’t find anything because no money is kept on site anymore since the first incident.

“It's infuriating to see how this beautiful park has been treated and it will be council tax payer’s money being used to fix this, which can easily be avoided by whoever is doing this stopping.”

He added: “We could end up losing the café and the Pitch and Putt could be the same if this keeps occurring.

“This isn’t fun anymore and it could result in this area becoming an empty site.

“I have no doubt that 99.9 per cent of people respect this park but a small minority are ruining everything.”

The cafe has been open at the popular beauty spot in Coate in south Swindon for more than 40 years.
