A BIKER who died in a crash on Sunday escaped death in a terrifying car smash five years ago.

Tributes have been paid to 38-year-old motorcyclist Matthew Doyle, from Gorse Hill, who died after he came off his bike at Transfer Bridges roundabout.

Wife Nikki said: “You will be sorely missed, but never forgotten in our hearts. Heaven has become a richer place. I will always love you.

Five years ago, Matthew spoke to the Advertiser after his family escaped tragedy on a quiet country lane.

In October 2013, his Audi A4 was struck by a suspected drink driver on Baydon Road, near Wanborough. His wife and son were also in the car.

At the time he told the Advertiser: “I don’t know what it takes for people to learn about the dangers of getting behind the wheel after having a few. For the sake of a few drinks any one of us in both of the vehicles could have been killed.”

Matthew died on Sunday, September 2, after he was thrown from his green Kawasaki motorcycle shortly after 10pm. Police are still investigating how the crash happened.

Paying tribute, the Gorse Hill man’s family said: “Matt was one of life’s special people. He had a huge heart and gave so much to anyone that was lucky enough to have met him and been part of his life.

“He lit up any room that he bounced into with his personality, contagious smile and laughter. His love for his family and extended family knew no bounds and he leaves a huge hole in so many hearts.

“A much loved son, brother, brother-in-law and uncle to his niece and nephew who he doted on, and who idolised him.

“We cannot put into words how devastated we are to have lost Matt, but we would like to thank all of Matt’s friends for all of the kind messages and support we have received during this difficult time.”

On Facebook, Stratton Churchway Bowls Club wrote: “It’s with great sadness the club has learned that our friend and club member Matt Doyle died in a motorcycle accident in Swindon on Sunday evening.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very sad time.”

Melanie Williams said: “Had some good times way back. I used to watch footie with him most weekends. You were a gentleman and a nice guy then and I am sure your family will miss you so much.”

Jacky McKay wrote online: “Such a lovely friendly funny guy absolutely devastating news so sorry for his family.”

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Wiltshire Police on 101.
