TESTS to help identify high-blood pressure will be available at free 'pressure stations' next week.

The initiative aims to spot the early warning signs of resulting from poor diet, low exercise, and high salt intake which can lead to higher risk of stroke and heart disease.

The tests are part of national Know Your Numbers Week, the UK’s biggest blood pressure testing event which organises the free blood pressure check-ups around the country from 10-16 September 2018.

Volunteers hosting the Pressure Station will provide information and advice on simple steps to keep blood pressure under control and will measure your blood pressure accurately.

Coun. Brian Ford, Swindon Borough Council’s cabinet Member for Adults, said: “Having high blood pressure now could lead to health problems like having a heart attack, stroke or developing certain types of dementia in the future.

“However, if detected, high blood pressure can be easily treated, thereby reducing your risk of these problems. I’d encourage you to visit one of our Pressure Stations next week and get your blood pressure checked.”

The stations will be located around Swindon on every day except Wednesday, between 10am and 2pm. Swindon Borough Council's One Stop Shop will be open on Monday, Broadgreen community Centre will be open on Thursday, and Great Western Hospital will have stations open on Tuesday and Friday.
