Every book sold at a left wing book fair in Swindon this weekend will benefit anti-racist campaigning organisation Hope Not Hate.

Swindon Trades Council, which is putting on the fourth Radical Book Fair has decided to donate £1 for every book sold at the fair to the group.

The Trades Council, which is an umbrella organisation for TUC-affiliated trades unions in town has extended a special invitation to the east London shop Bookmarks, which was at the centre of a media storm earlier this year when it alleged it was 'invaded' by right-wing members of the group Make Britain Great Again.

One of the people who visited the shop, along with a man in a plastic Donald Trump mask, was Martin Costello, who stood in the 2017 general election in Swindon for UKIP.After video emerged of the incident the party suspended Mr Costello and then cleared him. He has always said he had left the shop before any confrontation took place.

Secretary of the trade council, Dee Curd said: "We hope that by donating to an organisation such as Hope not Hate, some good will come of the incident.'"

Nick Ryan, director of communications, Hope Not Hate said: "We’re delighted to receive this support from the Radical Bookfair. Those who attempt to bully and intimidate others to drive intolerant views must not be allowed to gain the upper hand. We stand in complete solidarity with Bookmarks: if anything, this horrible incident has only strengthened our movement and resolve."

The bookfair will be held between 1 and 5pm on tomorrow at the Central Community Centre in Emlyn Square.
