AN ULTRA cyclist from Swindon is going for a World Record attempt pedalling from John 'O Groats to Lands End.

Setting off on Sunday Ian To hopes to cycle non-stop for 850 miles from the tip of England up to furtherest point in Scotland in under 43 hours.

The current world record, which has stood since 2001, is 43 hours and 25 minutes. Although most cyclists can take up to 2 weeks to complete the challenge.

Speaking about the attempt Ian said: "I am deeply grateful of the generosity and support from my sponsors, partners, family and all of the event support team, without whom we would not have even got to the start line" he went on to add

"The weather window is looking favourable and I am feeling extremely positive & motivated for this attempt. The record has stood for a long time now, and whilst our team admire the guts &

determination of all of those that went before us on this journey. The time is right to push the limits of endurance cycling."

Ian set off on Sunday at 5am, if he manages to beat the record will get back before midnight on Monday.

The 38-year-old father of three, now living in Wiltshire, holds numerous ultra-cycling records to his name, including two European Championships.

He is also raising money for the National Autistic Society, being the parent of a daughter who is on the autistic spectrum.
