A MOTION urging the leaders of Swindon Borough Council to writento the Prime Minister, the town's two Conservative MPs and the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, calling for a second referendum on Brexit will be debated on Thursday.

The motion has been tabled by Councillor Stan Pajak, leader of the Liberal Democrtat group on the council, whose national party has been against leaving the EU since before the 2016 referendum.

It says: "There is mounting and undisputable evidence of the damage

that ‘Brexit’ would cause both to the national economy and to our

regional economy."

And adds there are: "Increasing problems that the NHS is having in recruiting nurses and doctors since the decision to leave the European Union was made."

The motion also calls on a report to cabinet by the council leader on the 'likely effects' on Swindon of no deal being reached by March 2019.

The motion will be debated at Thursday's full council meeting starting at 7pm at Euclid Street.

Swindon voted 54/7 per cent to 45.3 per cent in favour of leaving the EU in the June 2016 referendum.
