OLD Town bar Gibson’s is set for a re-launch after being bought by a mother and daughter team.

The Victoria Road venue is in the process of being revamped but the new owners are planning to re-open it next month as a smart new wine bar, complete with a new name.

Kyra Field, whose mum Louise also owns Gustoso, just around the corner in Albert Street, is taking charge of the venue. She said she could hardly wait to put her touch on Swindon’s nightlife.

The 23-year-old said: “I couldn’t believe it when my mum said she had made a deal to take over Gibson’s but I was even more shocked when she told me that it will be mine.

“It still hasn’t sunk in yet that this is really happening, but I couldn’t be more excited to introduce this to Swindon.”

Originally the plan for the owners was to open it as it was and gradually make improvements as they went. But eventually they decided it needed a change of appearance right from the start.

Although the work is behind schedule, the women are eager to get the bar up and running as soon as they can.

Kyra explained: “The appeal of the décor wasn’t the modern image we want in there. It needed to have a total change so that it would represents us.

“Although it’s frustrating with waiting, we would rather it this way than rushing it.”

She added: “I want this to be perfect and I know that once the work is complete it will look amazing.”

Her mother approached the previous owner of the bar after hearing rumours that it might be going on the market. She said that within five minutes they had shaken hands on a deal.

The intention was to set it up as a business for Kyra to run.

She said: “I have always had a dream of owning a wine bar and now it’s real but to see Kyra excel will be the accomplishment.

“She has always been a hard grafter and now this is an opportunity for her to grow as a person, this will be her livelihood.

“This will be well worth the wait and it will have a fun, relaxed and friendly atmosphere, you will be sure to leave with a smile on your face.”

News of the revamp has already spread and they have been receiving inquiries from people keen to know when the bar will be open for business.

The pair have said they are also keen to be good neighbours with surrounding businesses. Kyra is planning to host an invitation launch night when the name of the wine bar will be unveiled.
