A TENTH of Swindon children are missing their second dose of the MMR vaccine, figures show.

Last year, 90 per cent of children in the town received the second vaccination, which protects against measles, mumps and rubella.

The numbers put Swindon ahead of Wiltshire, where MMR vaccine coverage was 89.1 per cent.

The new figures, published this week by NHS Digital, follow concerns raised over the summer about measles outbreaks in Europe.

Dr Julie Yates of Public Health England said the outbreaks were an important reminder for parents to take up the MMR jabs, given when the child is aged one and three years old.
