A MAN in a mobility scooter has been taken to hospital after being involved in a collision with a Ford Focus as he crossed Thamesdown Drive this morning.

Police were called to the scene around 11am and closed the road while the vehicles were recovered and paramedics treated the injured man.

Eyewitness Carl Merchant said: "I think an old person got knocked off their mobility scooter.

"There was a scooter all smashed up and shopping all over the road and about four police cars, loads of officers, and the gate by the lights was damaged."

A spokesperson for South West Ambulance Service said: “Paramedics were called just after 11am to a road traffic collision.

"A male patient with a head injury has been taken to Great Western hospital Emergency Department.”

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "The incident occurred while the man was crossing the road by the traffic lights near the West Swindon end of Thamesdown Drive, near the A419.

"No other injuries have been reported.

"The road is likely to be reopened in the next 15 minutes."
