A SKATEPARK celebrated a massive milestone as it reached its 18th anniversary.

ATBShop Skate Warehouse and Skatepark at Hawksworth Trading Estate put on a family event – with more than 400 people turning up to celebrate the occasion.

Visitors could try their hand at a graffiti workshop, a nerf gun battle, barbecue, and a raffle with some fantastic prizes.

Dianna Kirk, one of the owners of the skate company, said: “It was a fantastic day with hundreds of people coming out to support us.

“What made it so special to us was that families were coming out together rather than what normally happens where parents drop their kids off.

“We want people to be active and its important for us to keep helping others develop their skills.

“Eighteen years has flown by since we first opened, and I truly believe we bring something different to the town. We keep evolving with the times and that is how we maintain interest from people.”

Pro scooter rider Jack Wills was the special guest at the event.

He travelled all the way from Australia to take part.

The company was set up in 2000 running the online store from just a bedroom.

Since then it has moved three times renting out other venues but now it owns a warehouse that has been transformed into a skate park.

Dianna said: “When the scooter boom hit we invested all our money into a big warehouse with a fancy new skate park.

"It was a massive risk, but we knew the people of Swindon deserved a decent area to skate."

They have merged extreme sports that include snow, kite, a wake shop and skate park inside one space.

ATB has also started a new initiative where it donates skateboards and scooters to help deprived youngsters from disadvantaged backgrounds across Swindon.
