JUDGES had some fun at the Wroughton Autumn Show with some more unusual exhibits on offer.
There were more than 140 categories for local produce, ranging from the usual giant pumpkins and marrows, to the craziest looking root vegetable, the best display of garden weeds, and the Most Spectacular Garden Failure.
Jess Bailey, from the Wroughton Gardener’s Society, told the Adver: “It went really really well.
“We had great fun with it and it was a great success. We actually had someone brave enough to bring in their most spectacular garden failure.
“It was a pot, with dried earth, and I think four stalks sticking out, which used to be a lily. They were as dead as a dodo. She got a first prize for that.”
The gardening society which runs the show is trying to attract more people to take part by including more fun categories.
“We try and make it a bit fun,” said Jess, “hard work though, but a lot fun. I had over 40 people helping on the evening and the day.”
The Autumn Show is an annual event that fills the Ellendune Community Centre with exhibits of produce from local people’s gardens and allotments.
