RADIO 4’s long-running show Gardener’s Question Time will be coming to Swindon next week.

Members of the public can put their gardening queries to a panel of experts during the 45-minute broadcast, which has been running since 1947 and attracts 2 million listeners every week.

The panel includes regulars Bob Flowerdew, organic gardener and presenter, horticulturalist and broadcaster Anne Swithinbank and award-winning garden designer Chris Beardshaw.

Producers contacted the community garden project Incredible Edible Swindon to arrange the upcoming show.

Kathryn Hay, organiser from Incredible Edible Swindon, told the Adver:
“It’s a real Radio 4 institution, it has being going since 1947, and it’s coming to Swindon! Which is great.”

“It’s pretty exciting for us. It should be really good. We would love people to snap up the tickets and get the word out!”

“We had quite a strange summer this year with the heat wave.

“So, for example, people might have questions about how we grow food in the future. It might give us a bit of glimpse about what we could expect from climate change. So it might be a good opportunity to ask those sorts of questions.

“Another hot topic is plastics, there’s a lot of black plastic that is used in gardening, and how we can create more wildlife habitats in our gardens.

“There are loads of hot topics, so it will be great to have those interesting questions raised on the night,” said Kathryn.
Incredible Edible Swindon started in 2014 and has seven gardens across Swindon.
It organises people to grow vegetables in publicly accessible plots which are free for communities to get digging and enjoy freshly grown Swindon produce.

“The produce is there for anyone to pick and enjoy, “ she added.
“Our work is really about bringing people together through growing food; and building community that way.

“Hopefully into the future we’ll be able to support more community groups to grow their own plots in different patches around Swindon.

“People can pick a handful of beans of whatever they want and just enjoy the garden.”

The live show of Gardener’s Question Time will be held at The Phoenix Theatre at New College Swindon, on Tuesday, October 2.

Doors will be open from 5.30pm, and those attending will have a chance to write down their garden-related questions before recording of the show starts at 6.15.
Those wanting to attend can buy tickets through the Incredible Edible Swindon website.
