AFTER a draw and defeat in their opening two matches, Freshford United finally got their first Trowbridge & District League Division One win of the season at the third attempt on Saturday when they comprehensively beat Heytesbury 8-1 at Brown’s Park.

Last season’s top-flight golden boot winner Dave Percival hit five of Freshford’s eight goals and was joined on the scoresheet by Alfie Little with two and Mark Gerrish.

Heytesbury’s consolation came from Craig Sheppard.

Hilperton United also hit eight, this time without reply past a depleted Trowbridge Town Reserves, new signing Luke Murden scoring a hat-trick on his debut.

Thomas Blackman twice and further goals from Storm Brand, Kieren Fereday and Graham Griffiths moved United up to third.

Trowbridge Wanderers Development travelled to Zeals Recreation Ground and progressed to the next round beating their South Wiltshire hosts 3-1.

Kevin Deadman, Liam Lawes and Daniel Povey were on target for Wanderers, Daniel Bryce replying for Zeals.

The game between Westbury United Development and The Stiffs fell foul of the weather on Friday evening.

Westbury had agreed to host the tie at Meadow Lane under floodlights to ease the pressure on the league’s ongoing problem of a shortage of referees on Saturday afternoons, a County wide problem, but it will now be played at the earliest midweek opportunity.
