COURT: A Swindon man pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly in the car park of the Tawny Owl pub.

Martin Woods, 55, of Queen Elizabeth Drive, was given a six-month conditional discharge by magistrates and ordered to pay £105 in court costs.

COURT: Magistrates decided against sending a thief to prison, after hearing she was making progress with the probation service.

Kelly Croft, 33, of Lime Kiln, Royal Wootton Bassett, pleaded guilty to stealing booze and meat from Asda and Sainsbury’s supermarkets. The thefts were committed while Croft was subject to a suspended prison sentence for an early theft conviction.

But rather than jail her immediately, Swindon magistrates instead ordered she take on a more onerous drug rehabilitation programme. Croft must also pay an £85 victim surcharge.

COURT: A homeless man found himself before magistrates after twice breaking the terms of an order banning him from being in Covingham Square.

Robert Boston-Thomas, 48, of no fixed address, admitted being in the square in August and September. He was fined £50, deem paid by time served in custody.

COURT: A man accused of dropping a rabbit from a height denies causing the animal unnecessary suffering.

Appearing before Swindon Magistrates’ Court, Carrilon Mitchell, 37, of Manchester Road, also denied two counts of assault and breaking the terms of a restraining order. He was bailed for the trial on November 15.
