CHIPPENHAM got back to winning ways in style in South West One East as they earned a 45-24 success at winless Witney on Saturday.

Matt Dickens and Ben Hathaway got the visitors off to a flying start as they both touched, Al MacKenzie adding two of his five conversions to give Chippenham a 14-point advantage.

As Witney suffered with injuries, MacKenzie, Charlie Palmer and Oli Alcorn all touched down with Witney skipper Matt Clarke doing likewise.

Rhys Morgan’s try, converted by Luke Manning, gave Witney hope after the break, but David Lewis went over to make it 38-12 to the visitors.

Morgan and Ed Clothier touched down for the hosts, Manning converting the latter but Chippenham’s Jacob Unwin crossed to wrap up victory.

Royal Wootton Bassett ran out 29-14 winners in a hard-fought local derby at Swindon to move up to third place.

Bassett's first period of sustained pressure saw Swindon caught offside at the breakdown and fly-half Tom Fieldsend slotted the penalty.

Midway through the half Bassett extended their lead when scrum-half Jefeti Vakalalabure dummied and went over near the corner.

A sustained forward effort saw veteran hooker Felipe "BoBo" Kapedemai drive over, Fieldsend converting.

Just before the interval an attempted clearance kick was charged down by wing Scott Douglas who fed centre Elye Darragh who secured the bonus point, Fieldsend converting for a 22-0 lead.

As Swindon chased the game in the second half, a loose pass was seized on by Bassett skipper Gavin Ougan who outpaced the cover defence to score under the posts, Fieldsend converting, before Swindon hit back with two late converted tries.

Marlborough continued their flawless start to the season with a 40-17 triumph at Beaconsfield.

Scrum-half Amori Nailago's prompting sent Epeli Kotobalavu over under the posts for the visitors' opening try, Tom West converting but two quick tries from the hosts, one converted, took them into a 12-7 lead, Marlborough wing Mitieli Vulikijapani going to the sin-bin for a high tackle.

Despite being down to 14 men, Inosi Laqekoro set up Nailago, who stepped inside the covering defenders and ran around under the posts, West again converting.

Then Nailago sent a pass out to West who caught it one-handed before putting in a cross-field kick for Joeli Radovu to run on to and score near the corner.

Marlborough pulled clear in the second period, Ashley Horner, wing Ben Caravou, Radovu again and Semisi Rasivo touching down, Jake Williams booting all four conversions.
