This map shows the possible areas of growth for Swindon over the next decade.

It is the latest version of the Strategic Housing and Employment Land Availability Assessment put out by Swindon Borough Council.

It identifies sites thought to be suitable for development, whether for housing or for offices, factories and warehouses, or a mixture of both.

Green areas on the map show sites that have been deemed suitable for possible inclusion and red areas areas that council planning officers think are unsuitable.

But things might change - this suggested allocation is subject to public comments.

A spokesman for Swindon Borough Council said: "We are now asking for your views and while there is a consultation period to come in early 2019 on the Local Plan Review, we welcome comments on the initial site assessments, particularly any local knowledge which would assist us in our assessments.

"Perhaps sites proposed are inappropriate, or they may be difficult to deliver commercially. Please bear in mind the most sustainable sites are likely to be those close to existing communities."

The map shows clearly the shape the town might take as it develops - expansion is suggested along the major road arteries - along the A419 in the north and north west and north of the M4 and near junction 15 in the south of the town.

But those major developments are supplemented by smaller sites throughout the borough.

One major patch of green in the town centre is the North Star development still going through planning - while the industrial estate on one side, and the Swindon College site on the other have been rejected.

Land between London Street and the railway lines near the station, including car parks in Bristol Street and at the station, is allocated as suitable for both housing and employment, while the Outlet Village car park nearby is deemed unsuitable.
